Tokenisation: Coinbase and Ripple build on Securitize, a startup that allows to digitize financial securities

The Californian company Securitize wrapped up this week’s “Series A” round of Blockchain Capital, Coinbase Ventures and Ripple’s Xpring Fund.

Securitize raises $ 12.75 million

Securitize offers a range of services aimed at enabling companies to issue their “security tokens” – tokens corresponding to real financial securities.

The company announced Tuesday it raised $ 12.75 million through a Round Table “Series A” led by Blockchain Capital. Participants include Coinbase Ventures, Ripple’s Xpring fund, and Global Brain.

Securitize, which plans to launch its own “Digital Security Offering” next year, plans to revolutionize the securities industry, currently estimated at $ 7 trillion a year, by taking advantage of distributed register technology.

Carlos Domingo, the CEO and co-founder of the startup, said the funding should allow his company to promote its solution to investors, offer them increased liquidity and ensure compliance of its operations.

This is what he said:

“Our partners will support Securitize as we continue to operate with excellence in our industry, but will also help us prepare for our Digital Security Offering, which will be to” Tokenize “Securitize.

“They are” first movers “because the digitization of public and private actions is a great opportunity […]. 2019 will be the year in which we will see 10 to 15 trading platforms offering digital financial securities trading in a legal way. “

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said last September at the “Disrupt” conference organized by Tech Crunch that his company was planning to become the reference marketplace for buying and selling crypto-titles.

Note that Brad Stephens, the co-founder of Blockchain Capital, will join Securitize’s board of directors.

Tokenize financial securities

Securitize could thus help democratize the “tokenization” of financial securities on the blockchain, in order to offer transparency, liquidity and increased efficiency to the process of issuing such assets.

The startup is working on a compliance framework, which is part of a process called “Digital Security Offering” to enable companies to digitize their financial securities.

So far, Securitize has already issued several digital titles such as 22x, SPiCE VC, Augmate, or Blockchain Capital’s BCAP tokens. Some of these assets are already available on the AirSwap and OpenFinance networks – networks that are managed in accordance with US laws.
